Is a DVD or CD-Rom version of the demonstration tape available for the AnglePerfect II, Bladegauge II, or ShopStrop?
There is an older version of the demonstration video available on CD-Rom for these products. Please call or email us for details.
How long will the battery last for the AnglePerfect III and the BladeGauge III?
The battery is a 3V Lithium, it will last approximately 72 continues hours. Of course constant demand is not the mode that the blade gauge operates in. Demand is quick flashes of light, offering many thousands of measurements.
I have shown the same blade gauge at a trade show four consecutive days without running out of battery life. We figure that is about 5ooo contacts during that period without any noticeable drop in light intensity. LED's are designed to operate at very low current. Replacement batteries are available everywhere, commonly called the 3023 series.
BladeGauge III: How am I assured that the saw tooth I'm measuring is at the highest point?
The owners manual describes this procedure in detail. The short answer is: after finding the highest tooth, achieved by rocking the blade back and forth, flickering the light until it becomes stable, now mark that tooth with a marking pen. Keep the unit in place using the forward edge of the blade gauge base as a guide, then scribe a line on the table saw top. The next time you use the blade gauge the position is already marked.
BladeGauge III: Can the saw blade height could be measured with a ruler?
The problem with a ruler or a bridge gauge is it forces you to use the island around the saw blade as the datum point. As all woodworkers know the island insert is seldom flat to the true surface. The BladeGauge III is designed to always be seated on this true datum point; the top of the saw table is the true datum point not the island. The BladeGauge III allows you to bridge the island to the tooth you are measuring.
BladeGauge III: The edge contact area is thought to be fragile and would not hold up to saw teeth.
The contact edges are finished using high tech printed circuit board process. The heavy plating protects the contact points from wear. In use there is not an abrasive action. The point of the saw tooth only touches a very small part of the contact area. I have demonstrated the BladeGauge III at many trade shows using one instrument the entire show, moving the saw blade to the contact point thousands of times resulting in no appreciable wear.
What are the AnglePerfect III and the BladeGauge III?
This is a precision instrument much like a set of dial calipers or a fine edge on a plane blade. You wouldn't use your dial calipers as a "c" clamp or plane a board with embedded nails. A certain amount of caution must be realized when using any precision instrument. These are somewhat forgiving in that if it was to get wet with water or most solvents a simple drying would restore to use. If it dropped or somehow became miss aligned, you can reset the unit by loosening the set screw and resetting the base to the printed circuit board. This procedure is outlined in the instruction manual.
